On the afternoon of September 16, 2021, LIU Xiaoming, the Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs and former Chinese Ambassador to the UK, was invited to visit the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University. CISS Deputy Director XIAO Qian, China Forum Secretary General ZHANG Lirong and China Forum Executive Committee member HAN Hua received Ambassador Liu and briefed him on the endeavors of CISS and the China Forum since their establishment in policy research, public communication, international exchanges and student education.

From July 24th to 27th, 2021, a research team from Tsinghua University’s Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) conducted field research in Bayannur, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on energy and economic restructuring, which belongs to efforts to achieve China’s “dual carbon” goals, i.e. peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality before 2060. The 8-person strong team, led by Mme. FU Ying, Chair of CISS, and Professor ZOU Ji, CISS Fellow and CEO & President of Energy Foundation China, was offered generous hospitality from Bayannur’s government leadership including CHANG Zhigang, Secretary of the Municipal CPC Committee, and ZHOU Yulin, Director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People’s Congress. The research team was also accompanied by the head of Bayannur’s Development and Reform Commission throughout their research trip.

On July 19, the strategic studies team at Tsinghua University’s Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) made the second stop of its summer research project as AN Gang, DONG Ting, BIAN Yongzu, SU Yanting, and WANG Jingshu visited Guosheng Securities and engaged in exchanges on China-US commercial relations with the company’s chief analyst Dr. XIONG Yuan and analyst LIU Xinyu.

From May 6 to 8, 2021, a team of experts from Tsinghua University’s Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) conducted a field research at various enterprises in Datong, Shanxi Province. Dr. ZHANG Jifu, Ms. AI Lingyu and Mr. ZHOU Peng, respectively Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Secretary General of the Datong Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, met with Professor DA Wei, Deputy Director of CISS, and other visiting experts. The two sides had an in-depth exchange on issues such as the impact of changes in the international situation on the city’s economy
