On October 5, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held an online training session for its interns for Fall Semester 2021, where CISS Deputy Director XIAO Qian, Assistant Fellow DONG Ting, Fellow SUN Chenghao and two current intern representatives met with this semester’s 31 interns.

On September 28, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University and the Institute of Reference News jointly held a virtual seminar on the theme of “Prospects for the US Indo-Pacific Strategy in the Context of Multilateral Mechanisms – the Quad and AUKUS.” Moderated by LIU Hua, Director of the Institute of Reference News, the session brought together DA Wei, Deputy Director of CISS and Professor of International Relations at Tsinghua University, ZHOU Bo, CISS Senior Fellow, ZHONG Feiteng, Fellow and Head of the Department of Great Power Relations Studies at the National Institute of International Strategy under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and QIU Chaobing, Associate Fellow at the Institute of American Studies at CASS, for discussions on the developments of the Quad and AUKUS, the US Indo-Pacific Strategy and its impact on China.

On September 25, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held a seminar themed “AI and International Security,” convening experts from Tsinghua University, China People’s Liberation Army National Defense University, National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), China Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA), Development Strategy Research Center of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) for an in-depth look at the terminology and scenarios concerning AI and international security. Mme. FU Ying, Chair of CISS, attended the event, which was presided over by Professor ZHU Qichao, Fellow and Deputy Director of the Center for National Defense Technology and Strategic Studies of National University of Defense Technology.

Over the last few weeks, members of the strategic studies team at Tsinghua University’s Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) held discussions with Tencent Research Institute and AliResearch during the team’s summer research project. Participants from CISS included AN Gang, SONG Bo, BIAN Yongzu, DONG Ting, ZHU Rongsheng, SU Yanting, WANG Jingshu, et al.

On February 4, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University and CITIC Press Group jointly held the Symposium and Sharing Session on Ambassador Fu Ying’s New Book Seeing the World 2 themed on “Challenges and Choices Amidst Changes Unseen in a Century” at the Dalio Auditorium of Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University. Fu Ying, Chairperson of the CISS, Tsinghua University, Professor Xue Lan, Dean of the Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University and member of the Academic Committee of the CISS, Professor Peng Kaiping, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, and Professor Da Wei, Senior Fellow of the CISS, Tsinghua University were present at the meeting. It was moderated by Liu Xin, a senior anchorwoman at China Global Television Network (CGTN), with more than 200 attendees including the faculty and students of Tsinghua University and guests online and offline.

On December 14, Beijing Time, experts from the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University attended a webinar titled “After the U.S. Election: International Relations and China’s Foreign Policy” jointly held by CISS and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).

On December 7, Beijing time, CISS held a seminar on “International Relations and China’s Foreign Policy after the U.S. Election” together with University of Oxford China Center. CISS Senior Fellow ZHOU Bo, Academic Committee Member HUANG Renwei, Visiting Fellows DA Wei, LI Chen, and ZHAO Minghao were among the Chinese experts at the event. The seminar also brought together an international panel including Todd H. Hall, Director of the University of Oxford China Center, Rana Mitter, Fellow and former Director of the University of Oxford China Center, Rosemary Foot, former Warden of St. Anthony’s College, Oxford, Jérôme Doyon, Departmental Lecturer of Contemporary Chinese Studies at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies, and Vivienne Shue, Associate Professor at the University of Oxford China Center and Professor Emeritus of Contemporary Chinese Studies at Oxford.

The 2020 U.S. presidential election is considered “the most important election in American history.” With the pandemic adding to the uncertainty of this general election, its results will have far-reaching implications for the global economy and the international landscape. In light of this, a lecture themed “U.S.-China Relations after the U.S. Presidential Election” was held on November 5th, with a panel of guests including Professor WANG Jisi, President of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies at Peking University, Professor ZHU Feng, Executive Director

On September 9, 2020, the Center for International Security and Strategy, Tsinghua University (CISS) held its third plenary meeting of its Academic Committee members and fellows. About 30 Academic Committee members and fellows attended the event.

On April 17, Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) at Tsinghua University held its 10th Weekend Forum on Strategy and Security—Seminar on the Security and Stability of the Global Industrial Chain Due to the Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic. It was co-chaired by FU Ying, chair of CISS, together with CHEN Xiaogong and YAO Yunzhu, both Academic Committee members of CISS. A panel of over 20 attendees joined the seminar including CISS Academic Committee members, research fellows, and special guests (list attached).
