Thornton China Center; Cheng Li, Founding Director of the Hong Kong University's Centre on Contemporary China and the World (CCCW); and Margaret M. Pearson, Distinguished Professor at the University of Maryland. They held discussions with Da Wei, Director of CISS, Xiao Qian and Chen Qi, Deputy Directors of CISS, Dong Ting, Sun Chenghao, and Shi Yan, Fellows of CISS. The two sides discussed topics related to China-US people-to-people exchanges.

On April 20, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a $95 billion bill that included provisions for security assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The bill also attended to GOP legislative priorities, encompassing sanctions targeting Iran and a potential ban of TikTok. It allocates $61 billion to Ukraine, $26 billion to Israel, and $8 billion for Indo-Pacific regional security. The Senate then overwhelmingly passed the measure in a 79-18 vote three days later, and President Joe Biden subsequently signed it into law.

On the afternoon of April 11, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held the 82nd Security and Strategy Seminar on “Capacity Building and International Cooperation on Artificial Intelligence.” Moderated by Xiao Qian, Deputy Director of CISS and Vice Dean of the Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG) of Tsinghua University, the Seminar invited experts from universities, research institutes, and enterprises, including the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), China People’s Liberation Army National Defense University, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), China Mobile Research Institute, Alibaba Group, and SenseTime, to have in-depth discussions on the topics, such as how to enhance AI capacity building and how to strengthen international cooperation and exchange in the field of AI governance.
