On December 31, 2024, Ms.Xiao Qian, deputy director of the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University, was asked to write an article in China Daily analyzing the results of the recently released Reagan Defense Survey. The article pointed out that in 2018, the US government positioned China as a "strategic competitor" and repeatedly stressed the "existential threat", which led to the serious bias of the American people's perception of China. The setting of the China-related question in the poll is also misleading to respondents. The article stressed that the future peaceful coexistence of China and the United States needs to rebuild mutual trust between the two sides. It is expected that the new US administration will adopt a pragmatic attitude toward China, remove obstacles to people-to-people exchanges, take measures to narrow the cognitive gap between the two sides, and cultivate healthy bilateral relations.

Former US President Donald Trump was shot in the ear and wounded during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, and the attacker was killed by Secret Service security personnel at the scene. On April 20, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a $95 billion bill that included provisions for security assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
