The year 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s proposal of building a global community of shared future. Timed to coincide with the release of the State Council Information Office’s white paper entitled “A Global Community of Shared Future: China’s Proposals and Actions,” in order to implement the concept and help international development cooperation better serve great power diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University and the Institute of International Development Cooperation (IIDC) at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) jointly organized the Seminar on “Great Power Diplomacy and International Development Cooperation from the Perspective of Building a Global Community of Shared Future” on the afternoon of September 27. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the possibility of international development cooperation innovation and the coordination of the relationship between diplomacy and foreign aid. The Seminar was co-chaired by Professor Da Wei, Director of CISS, and Wang Luo, Director of the IIDC at the CAITEC.
From the perspectives of the construction of promoting aid knowledge systems, international development assistance in the three major initiatives, competition among great powers and foreign aid, evaluation of foreign aid effectiveness, diversified selection of target countries, and the narrative discourse system of foreign aid, participating experts discussed, through the integration of theory and practical cases, the current situation of foreign aid and the challenges it faces. They put forward their insights and exchanged views on the methods and paths to implement the concept of a global community of shared future in China’s foreign affairs and international development cooperation.
