China Forum from the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) at Tsinghua University hosted its fourth "China Forum: Experts & Media Face-to-Face" session on April 29, 2025. Focused on "Trump’s Tariff War: Global Economic Risks and Challenges," scholars unanimously criticized U.S. trade protectionism as a destabilizing force.
Participants argued the Trump administration’s justification for tariffs—citing trade deficit damages—ignores complex economic realities, including global supply chains’ value-added contributions. They contended these policies have evolved from economic tools into geopolitical weapons, disrupting international industrial chains and eroding global confidence in the U.S.
"Reciprocal tariffs burden consumers, raise production costs, risk industry contraction, and violate fundamental economic principles," experts warned, noting unprecedented threats to worldwide growth and supply chain stability.
The forum series aims to bridge academic expertise and media outreach, fostering global understanding of China’s perspectives.
