On August 16, Professor Zhao Minghao, deputy director of the Center for American Studies at Fudan University and a China Forum expert, gave a lecture to a group of Brazilian business leaders visiting China at the invitation of the Brazilian Center for International Relations and the Global Legacy Program, in which he introduced the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, China’s foreign policy, the Belt and Road Initiative, and China-US relations. The participants had an in-depth exchange of views on topics such as the Global South and international order, international security challenges, and China-Brazil cooperation.
Augusto Pestana, consul general of Brazil in Shanghai, delivered opening remarks. In his lecture, Zhao stressed the need for China to work together with Brazil and other members of the Global South to promote common growth, cooperation and green development as it continues its reform and opening up. There is great potential for cooperation between China and Brazil in areas such as digital economy and renewable energy as the Belt and Road Initiative enters a new stage of development.
Professor Zhao also answered questions on Taiwan, South China Sea, China-US trade, China-Russia relations, and the internationalization of the renminbi. China is committed to promoting peaceful development and safeguarding the stability and prosperity of the world through the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, said he.
Founded in 2014 by former Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, the Global Legacy Program aims to guide the construction of a solid and structured path for young people from the world’s leading business families in the face of opportunities and responsibilities consistent with their role and place in the 21st century.
