European Commission’s President Ursula Von del Layen and European Council’s President Charles Michel are flying to China for a high-level summit with President Xi Jinping. They follow on the footsteps of European Union High Representative Josep Borrell and European Commission Vice-Presidents Valdis Dombrovskis and Věra Jourová.

It is already an unacceptable reality that China and the United States have taken each other as their largest maritime rivals. China believes the U.S. is intensifying its containment of China at sea: intervening on Taiwan, in the South China Sea, and elsewhere on China’s maritime periphery.
