On November 19, 2025, a delegation from the CISS Youth program under the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University, visited the Centre on Contemporary China and the World (CCCW) at The University of Hong Kong. The two sides held a youth dialogue on the theme “Educational Experiences in a Globalized Era: Opportunities and Challenges of Overseas Study.” Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on cross-cultural engagement, studying abroad, and youth responsibility. The session was moderated by Zhao Xiuyie, a PhD researcher at CISS.

The event began with an introduction by Zhang Chi, Senior Research Assistant at CCCW, who outlined the center’s organizational structure and expert team. He highlighted CCCW’s major research achievements and signature activities in areas such as China–U.S. relations, climate change, and global governance, and warmly welcomed CISS Youth members to participate in future dialogues. Fan Jingyue, Secretary-General of the 6th CISS Youth cohort, expressed appreciation for CCCW’s hospitality and introduced CISS Youth’s positioning as a research-oriented exchange platform for young scholars and students. She emphasized the program’s pre-career talent development goals and its active participation in international forums and youth dialogues, noting hopes to further deepen collaboration between the two institutions.

During the sharing session, CCCW researchers and CISS Youth members exchanged experiences from studying in the United States, the Middle East, South America, Switzerland, and other regions. David Okonkronkwo, a visiting scholar at CCCW, reflected on his diverse academic journey across Nigeria, Serbia, and China, arguing that firsthand engagement remains one of the most effective ways to bridge cultural divides and foster mutual understanding. Participants also discussed breaking cultural stereotypes, exploring new models of cultural exchange, and the essential role of language learning. They agreed that in an era of rapid AI development and deepening globalization, overseas study requires an open mindset, rational thinking, and the ability to adapt to fast-changing global dynamics.

The dialogue featured lively exchanges and laid a solid foundation for sustained cooperation. Both CISS Youth and CCCW expressed their intention to maintain close communication and continue building high-quality platforms for youth dialogue, contributing to young people’s growth and to global affairs more broadly.
