On September 9, 2025, Ms. Sevim Dagdelen, Vice Chair of the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht – Reason and Justice (BSW), visited the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) at Tsinghua University. She held in-depth discussions with Liu Feng, Deputy Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Deputy Director of CISS, and Professor in the Department of International Relations; Chen Qi, Deputy Director of CISS and Professor in the Department of International Relations; Qu Wei, Director of the Global Learning Center of the School of Sociology; Shi Yan, Assistant Research Fellow at CISS; and Xing Houyuan, expert of the Global Alliance for Trade in Services. The discussions focused on current international dynamics, the Ukraine crisis, as well as China-U.S. and China-Europe relations.
The participating experts emphasized that China, the United States, and Europe all play indispensable roles in global affairs. However, the global trust deficit is constraining countries’ ability to reach multilateral consensus and establish practical cooperation mechanisms on urgent global issues such as climate change. In particular, the unilateralist policies of the United States and the Trump administration’s withdrawal from multilateral frameworks are exerting a significant impact on the global governance order and rules. Against this backdrop, China and Europe should take a more proactive role in promoting peaceful solutions, and in building partnerships that feature greater strategic autonomy and openness in trade and economic relations.
