UKNCC Delegation Visits CISS

2024-11-29

On the afternoon of November 18, 2024, Ollie Shiell, Chief Executive and Co-founding Director of the UK National Committee on China (UKNCC), and other representatives visited the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University. They had an in-depth discussion on China-UK relations and global hotspot topics with Da Wei, Director of CISS and Professor of the Department of International Relations, and other expert representatives.

During the meeting, Da Wei pointed out that the second presidency of Donald Trump as the U.S. president will lead to substantial adjustments in EU-US relations and China-EU relations, bringing both opportunities and challenges. There is great room for wide cooperation between China and the EU, and China and the UK in areas such as climate change, health and hygiene, and people-to-people exchanges. China and the UK can work together to address global crises and international challenges. Ollie Shiell noted that UKNCC has long been committed to enhancing the trust and understanding of British policymakers and people towards China through education, dialogue, and research. It is willing to continue to maintain in-depth cooperation with CISS and its China Forum and further play the role of a bridge to promote communication and exchange.

The UKNCC delegation also included Winnie King, Director of UKNCC and Assistant Professor of Chinese International Political Economy at the University of Bristol; Chengkai Xie, Head of UKNCC’s Office of China Affairs; and Ioana Turcan and Marcos Sabio, UKNCC representatives. CISS participants included Shi Yan and Dong Ting, Fellows of CISS; Wen Jing, Postdoc Fellow of CISS and Director of International Communication at CISS China Forum; Guo Jia, Project Manager of CISS China Forum; and Qian Jiatong, Project Specialist of CISS China Forum.
