Delegation from the Korea Institute for National Unification Visits CISS
2026-09-25

On the morning of September 17, 2026, Sangsin Lee, Director and Senior Research Fellow of the Unification Policy Research Division, and Chulki Hong, Research Fellow of the Human Rights Research Division, both from the Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU), visited the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University.

Wang Zheng, Visiting Scholar at CISS and Professor at the School of Diplomacy and International Relations, Seton Hall University of the United States; Dong Ting, Fellow at CISS; and Luo Shengjun, project officer at CISS, took part in the forum. Discussions centred on three public-opinion surveys conducted respectively by KINU and CISS.

Sangsin Lee presented the research design and key findings of the KINU Unification Survey (2014-2026) and the Global Survey on Korean Unification (2024-2026). Dong Ting introduced CISS’s Public Opinion Polls on Chinese Outlook on International Security (2025). The two sides engaged in thorough exchanges covering research design for public-opinion polling, cross-national comparative methodologies, and implications of shifting public opinion for policy research.

Building on these discussions, drawing on relevant public-opinion studies and his academic monograph Never Forget National Humiliation: Historical Memory in Chinese Politics and Foreign Relations, whose Korean translation was published in 2024, Wang Zheng exchanged views with Korean scholars on the formation and evolution of socio-historical memory, as well as the interplay between historical memory and politics.
