On November 18, 2022, Prof. Da Wei, Director of CISS, participated in the online symposium on “Coexistence 2.0: U.S.-China Relations in a Changing World” at Harvard University, U.S. The event was co-organized by the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University and Rajawali Foundation Institute for Asia at John F. Kennedy School of Government. Prof. Da Wei and Prof. Zha Daojiong from Peking University attended the first session of the symposium, “Influential Comment from Chinese Scholars”, which was presided over by Prof. Huang Yasheng from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Da Wei presented the views of Chinese scholars about the current and next phase of U.S.-China relations. Da believes that the recently concluded Bali summit between the heads of the U.S. and China provides a good yet slim opportunity for the two countries to stabilize their relations. The prospects for future bilateral relations remain grim, but stability is not impossible. During the discussion and Q&A session, Da answered questions on the Taiwan question, people-to-people exchanges, and economic and technological decoupling.
