On November 4, 2022, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held its fourth plenary session for its academic committee members and fellows. Under the theme “A New Horizon: New Tasks for Security and Strategic Studies,” the event brought together more than 30 CISS experts. The meeting was moderated by CISS Deputy Directors Xiao Qian and Chen Qi.
CISS Director Da Wei delivered a message and reported on the work of the institute, briefing on its deliverables over the past four years since its establishment in terms of research, capacity building, academic engagement, international communication, and talent training.
The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China opened up a new horizon for socialism with Chinese characteristics as the country embarks on a new journey towards socialist modernization. Against this backdrop, the participants discussed the challenges and tasks for China’s diplomacy in the new era amid changes in the domestic and international situation, and deep dived into key research areas in international security and strategy in the next phase.
Panelists believe that CISS should continue to strengthen and align its capacity building with the changing situation and tasks, and build on its strengths to promote international exchanges and the high-quality development of think tanks with Chinese characteristics. In addition, concrete proposals were made on the institute’s research focus and future development.
