As noted in the Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, “China’s young people of today are living in a remarkable time. They have an incomparably broad stage on which to display their full talents, and they have incomparably bright prospects of realizing their dreams.” On October 24, CGTN held a forum titled “Global Youth Talk: Growing Together with China” in Beijing.
Around 30 youth representatives of political party alliances, youth leaders in academia and across different sectors, as well as international students in China from Cameroon, India, Burundi, Brazil, Argentina, Ireland, Sudan, Turkmenistan, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, China and other countries gathered at the forum, either in person or via video link. They highlighted China’s achievements over the past decade and the vitality of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, and shared their expectations that China will make new contributions to global governance and provide fresh opportunities for the development of other countries.
Sun Chenghao, fellow at the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University, was invited to deliver a speech in English as the opening speaker of the forum. In his speech entitled “Promoting multilateralism is a shared responsibility of the young generation,” Sun urged the younger generation not to become indifferent spectators, but active builders. Young people across the globe should join hands to promote world peace and development, practice true multilateralism, work to improve global governance, and promote multilateral cooperation, so as to build a better world for a brighter future, he said.
