On May 22, representatives from CISS Youth, the youth initiative of the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) at Tsinghua University, were invited to visit the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) and participate in the “Dialogue with Ambassadors” event co-hosted by CUSEF and the Max Baucus Institute from Montana, USA. The event was moderated by Mr. James Chau, President of CUSEF, and featured Ambassador Cui Tiankai, former Chinese Ambassador to the United States, and Ambassador Max Baucus, former U.S. Ambassador to China, who shared their perspectives on how China and the U.S. can engage constructively with each other.
Before the event, the CISS Youth representatives toured the CUSEF office and engaged in discussions with student delegates from the Max Baucus Institute on topics such as the roles China and the U.S. play in global affairs. During the Q&A session, Mr. James Chau invited the CISS Youth representatives to share their visions for future cooperation between the two countries and the role young people can play in that process.
Following the event, the CISS Youth delegates had the opportunity to speak with Ambassador Cui Tiankai, seeking his advice on how youth can navigate the shifting global order. They also took a group photo with the ambassador to commemorate the occasion.
Participants in the event included Zhang Yuanshinan, a master's student at China Foreign Affairs University; Huang Chenxuan, an undergraduate at Tsinghua University; Lei Wencong, a master's student at Renmin University of China; and Zhou Yang from the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies at China International Communications Group (CICG).
The CISS Youth representatives expressed their deep gratitude to CUSEF for providing this valuable opportunity. They agreed that the insightful remarks by Ambassadors Cui and Baucus were both inspiring and encouraging, motivating them to face academic and professional challenges with determination and composure. This event reinforced their belief in the crucial role of people-to-people exchanges—particularly among young students—in fostering a stable, healthy, and sustainable U.S.-China relationship. The representatives pledged to remain actively engaged in cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries and to contribute the strength of youth to the future of U.S.-China relations.
