【THE 70TH SECURITY AND STRATEGY SEMINAR】U.S.-EU COMPETITION WITH CHINA IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AND DE-RISKING

On June 14, 2023, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) at Tsinghua University held its 70th Security and Strategy Seminar on the topic of “U.S.-EU Competition with China in Science and Technology and De-risking”. The event was presided over by CISS Research Fellow Dong Ting. Deputy Director Professor Chen Qi delivered a speech. Dignitaries from various Chinese governmental departments and prestigious academic institutions across the country, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Commerce, the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED), the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC), the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Tsinghua University, Peking University, and the University of International Relations (UIR), as well as representatives from various enterprises were invited to attend this event.

The seminar closely scrutinized the latest developments in the U.S.-EU competition with China in the field of science and technology and delved into further analysis of the specific connotation, policy tools, and future trends of “de-risking”. Invited experts, based on their individual research fields and expertise, approached the topic from the angles of policy, law, economy and trade, diplomacy, and technology and offered insightful observations and recommendations in their keynote speeches. They also actively engaged in information exchange and shared their opinions with one another.
