China Forum Expert Gao Jian Speaks to Global Times
​On May 28, Gao Jian, a China Forum expert and director of the Centre for British Studies at Shanghai International Studies University, gave an interview to the Global Times on what important signals were sent by China’s Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui’s trip to five European countries, and on China’s ability as an impartial mediator in the Ukraine crisis.

On May 28, Gao Jian, a China Forum expert and director of the Centre for British Studies at Shanghai International Studies University, gave an interview to the Global Times on what important signals were sent by China’s Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui’s trip to five European countries, and on China’s ability as an impartial mediator in the Ukraine crisis.

As China’s first practical diplomatic peacemaking efforts in helping solve the Ukraine crisis, Li’s visit once again demonstrates China’s fundamental aim of a peaceful settlement of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and shows China’s consistent attitude as a major responsible country, said Gao. It also shows that China will be more actively involved in international affairs in the future, contributing its strength and solutions to the world, as the world needs China, he added.

As to whether China is capable of acting as an honest broker in the Ukraine crisis, Gao believes that China has rich experience and a profound understanding of the peaceful settlement of international disputes through consultation, which means China is the best choice.
