On October 30, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University and the Brookings Institution co-hosted the fifth round of the US-China Artificial Intelligence Dialogue on Security via video link.

On the morning of October 16, CHEN Qi, Secretary General of the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) and Professor of International Relations at Tsinghua University, visited the secretariat of the World Historic and Cultural Canal Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO) in Yangzhou.

On October 8, the Sino-American Youth Dialogue on Climate Change was held at Tsinghua University. The Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) participated in the planning and organizing of the event, with its Deputy Directors DA Wei and XIAO Qian attending the event. Professor Da was also invited to give comments on the roundtable discussions.

On October 5, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held an online training session for its interns for Fall Semester 2021, where CISS Deputy Director XIAO Qian, Assistant Fellow DONG Ting, Fellow SUN Chenghao and two current intern representatives met with this semester’s 31 interns.

On September 28, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University and the Institute of Reference News jointly held a virtual seminar on the theme of “Prospects for the US Indo-Pacific Strategy in the Context of Multilateral Mechanisms – the Quad and AUKUS.” Moderated by LIU Hua, Director of the Institute of Reference News, the session brought together DA Wei, Deputy Director of CISS and Professor of International Relations at Tsinghua University, ZHOU Bo, CISS Senior Fellow, ZHONG Feiteng, Fellow and Head of the Department of Great Power Relations Studies at the National Institute of International Strategy under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and QIU Chaobing, Associate Fellow at the Institute of American Studies at CASS, for discussions on the developments of the Quad and AUKUS, the US Indo-Pacific Strategy and its impact on China.

On September 25, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held a seminar themed “AI and International Security,” convening experts from Tsinghua University, China People’s Liberation Army National Defense University, National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), China Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA), Development Strategy Research Center of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) for an in-depth look at the terminology and scenarios concerning AI and international security. Mme. FU Ying, Chair of CISS, attended the event, which was presided over by Professor ZHU Qichao, Fellow and Deputy Director of the Center for National Defense Technology and Strategic Studies of National University of Defense Technology.

On September 22, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held its 20th Security and Strategy Seminar, which focused on AUKUS, a trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Moderated by CISS Fellow ZHOU Bo, the event brought together experts and scholars from Tsinghua University, Peking University, China People’s Liberation Army National Defense University, Party School of the Central Committee of CPC, Academy of Military Sciences and other universities and research institutions to discuss the dynamics and impact of AUKUS on China and to explore corresponding policy recommendations. Experts from the Policy Planning Department and the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China were invited as well.

On the afternoon of September 16, 2021, LIU Xiaoming, the Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs and former Chinese Ambassador to the UK, was invited to visit the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University. CISS Deputy Director XIAO Qian, China Forum Secretary General ZHANG Lirong and China Forum Executive Committee member HAN Hua received Ambassador Liu and briefed him on the endeavors of CISS and the China Forum since their establishment in policy research, public communication, international exchanges and student education.

On September 3, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) at Tsinghua University held its 19th Security and Strategy Seminar themed “Afghanistan after the US Withdrawal: Opportunities, Challenges and Responses,” convening more than 20 participants, including CISS academic committee members, fellows and invited experts.

On August 27, 2021, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) at Tsinghua University held its 18th Security and Strategy Symposium & Mid-Year Seminar themed “A Look Ahead: China’s Relations with the Rest of the World in the Post-Pandemic Era,” convening more than 30 participants, including members of the CISS academic committee, CISS fellows and invited experts.

On August 23, Tsinghua University’s Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), together with the Academy of Contemporary China and the World Studies (ACCWS) and the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions, jointly launched a series of Ambassador Roundtables in the Xianhe Hall at the Beijing International Club. The first roundtable focused on climate change and China-Europe cooperation.
