On November 15-16, 2024, Professor Da Wei, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University, was invited to Hong Kong to attend the U.S.-China Hong Kong Forum 2024, co-organized by the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) and the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE).
During the Forum, Professor Da Wei moderated Panel 1 “2024 Election: What’s next for the U.S. and China?”. Max Baucus, 11th U.S. Ambassador to China; Christopher Nixon Cox, Board Director of the Richard Nixon Foundation; Cui Tiankai, former Vice Foreign Minister of China and Ambassador of China to the U.S.; Nirupama Rao, 28th Foreign Secretary of India and former Ambassador of India to China and the U.S.; and Rick Waters, Managing Director of Eurasia Group and former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, participated in this session.
In the closed-door roundtable discussions on the second day, Professor Da Wei moderated Roundtable 1 on “The Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea: Is there still hope for peace?”. Ronnie Chan, Governor of CUSEF and Honorary Chair of Hang Lung Properties; Ambassador Cui Tiankai; Simon Lacey, Head of Digital Trade and Geopolitics at the World Economic Forum; Li Cheng, Director of the Centre on Contemporary China and the World at the University of Hong Kong; Ambassador Nirupama Rao; and Sudrajat, former Chief Military Spokesman of Indonesia and Indonesian Ambassador to China, participated in the discussion.
Afterward, Professor Da Wei spoke at Roundtable 2 on “Science and technology: Are we entering a new era of competition?”, discussing the global impact of technological competition with Wang Huiyao, Founder and President of the Center for China and Globalization; Ambassador Max Baucus; Mr. Christopher Nixon Cox; Shyam Saran, 26th Foreign Secretary of India and former Special Envoy on Nuclear and Climate; Yang Jiemian, Chairman of the Academic Advisory Council at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies; and Zhang Monan, Deputy Head of the Institute of American and European Studies at CCIEE.
During the conference, Professor Da Wei also had a networking meal with Victor K. Fung, Vice Chairman of CUSEF and Group Chairman of the Fung Group.
