On June 3, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) held an online conference on “China-EU Experts’ Dialogue on International Security.” Yao Yunzhu, Academic Committee Member of CISS and Senior Advisor of China Association of Military Sciences, and Linda van der Horst, Senior Advisor of HD, delivered speeches for the Dialogue. This event gathered 17 scholars from Chinese and European research institutes, universities, think tanks, and other organizations to exchange views on the situation between Russia and Ukraine and delve into the Swiss Peace Summit and the cooperation between China and Europe.

The Dialogue included three sessions. The first session centered on “Geopolitical Dynamics and the Ukraine Crisis,” with a keynote speech by Professor Cui Hongjian from the Academy of Regional and Global Governance at Beijing Foreign Studies University. The experts present exchanged views on the prospects for peace in Ukraine and discussed the impact of the Ukraine crisis on China-EU relations. In the second session themed “Swiss Peace Summit,” Chen Xiaogong, Academic Committee Member of CISS, and Sun Zhuangzhi, Director and Researcher of the Institute of Russian, Eastern European & Central Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, discussed the key topics of the high-level conference in Switzerland and the policy directions after the event. The third session focused on “Path to Peace,” the keynote speech of which was delivered by Song Bo, Fellow of CISS. The experts explored how China and Europe could reach more agreement on peace.

Xiao Qian, Deputy Director of CISS, summarized the event, praising it as a fruitful outcome and encouraging Chinese and foreign scholars to continue the dialogue in international peace and security to further explore the “Path to Peace” and make coordinated efforts for a peace solution.
