On May 14, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held the 35th Security and Strategy Seminar titled “US Containment of Foreign Businesses and Industries: Why and How.” The event was moderated by Chen Qi, deputy director of CISS and professor in the Department of International Relations at Tsinghua.

Panelists discussed the evolution of the US policy of restricting and throttling foreign companies, its political, economic and legal basis for sanctioning those businesses, the roles and perspectives of political and interest groups, as well as effective responses to the sanctions. 

The seminar featured Fan Jishe, director for Global Governance and International Organizations Studies and vice president at the Institute for International Strategic Studies at the CPC Central Party School, and CISS nonresident senior fellow; Hao Min, director of the Center for Intellectual Property and Technological Security, University of International Relations; Xiao Zhiyuan, associate dean of the Law School of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law; Li Wei, Professor in the School of International Studies, Renmin University of China; Liu Yang, assistant professor in the Law School of Renmin University of China; Qi Kai, associate professor at the Globalization and Global Issues Institute, China University of Political Science and Law; Mao Keji, assistant researcher at the International Cooperation Center, National Development and Reform Commission; Liang Zheng, vice dean of the Institute for AI International Governance, Tsinghua University; Yu Yang, assistant professor at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences, Tsinghua University; Yu Xiang, senior research fellow at the International Institute of China Construction Bank and CISS nonresident senior fellow; Xiao Qian, deputy director of CISS; and CISS fellows Song Bo, Sun Chenghao and Dong Ting.
