CISS Hosts Parallel Session at the Third World Conference of Sinologists

From June 2 to 4, 2026, the Third World Conference of Sinologists was held in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, under the theme "Drawing on the Wisdom of Chinese and Foreign Civilizations to Meet the Challenges of Our Time." The conference was jointly hosted by the China International Communications Group (CICG) and the People's Government of Gansu Province. The Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University, organized the conference's second parallel session, titled "Harmony and Coexistence: The Peaceful Gene of Chinese Civilization."

More than 300 participants from nearly 70 countries, including government officials, Sinologists, scholars, representatives from relevant Chinese government departments, and members of the cultural community, attended the conference. Participants reached broad consensus on promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, advancing the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Artificial Intelligence Governance Initiative, and strengthening international cooperation to address shared global challenges and build a better world.

On June 4, the parallel session "Harmony and Coexistence: The Peaceful Gene of Chinese Civilization" was successfully held. The session was chaired by Da Wei, Director of CISS and Professor in the Department of International Relations at Tsinghua University. Chinese and international scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on the evolving international order, China's role in safeguarding global security, and the practical implementation of the Global Security Initiative.

Chinese participants included Gao Jian, Director of the China-UK Centre for People-to-People Exchange Studies at Shanghai International Studies University; Gu Bin, Associate Professor at the School of Law, Beijing Foreign Studies University; Huang Renwei, Executive Vice President and Distinguished Professor of the Institute for the Belt and Road and Global Governance at Fudan University; Ren Xiao, Professor at the Academy of Regional and Global Governance, Beijing Foreign Studies University; Su Hao, Founding Director of the Center for Strategic and Peace Studies at China Foreign Affairs University and Vice Dean of the Institute for Global Governance and Development at Renmin University of China; Xue Li, Research Fellow at the Institute of World Economics and Politics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; and Shi Yan and Song Bo, Research Assistants at CISS.

International participants included Yonas Adaye, Commissioner of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission and Founding Director of the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University; Zhadyra Assetkyzy, Senior Expert at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan; Hassan Khannenje, Director of the Horn International Institute for Strategic Studies (Kenya); renowned Sinologist Wolfgang Kubin, Distinguished Professor at Shanghai International Studies University and Professor Emeritus at the University of Bonn; Andrey Kortunov, former Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council; Vito Rosario Petrocelli, former Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Senate; Valentin Preda, President of the Foreign Affairs 360 Think Tank (Romania); and Mohamed Rasheed, former Ambassador of the Maldives to China and Founder and President of the China-Maldives Cultural Exchange Association.

In addition, Huang Renwei, Non-resident Fellow of CISS, and Gao Jian, Non-resident Fellow of the CISS China Forum, participated in a closed-door seminar titled "China-Europe Relations Amid Profound Global Changes Unseen in a Century." They exchanged views with European scholars on the opportunities and challenges facing China-Europe relations, as well as pathways toward building a peaceful and stable China-Europe relationship.
