On January 3, a student delegation from the CUSEF x Columbia SIPA Initiative visited Tsinghua University and participated in the “Tsinghua & Columbia NextGen Dialogue” organized by the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University. Nearly 80 students from China and the US gathered to discuss the responsibilities and roles that Chinese and American youth should take and can play in promoting the development of bilateral relations.

At the beginning of the event, Xiao Qian, Dean of the Office of International Affairs and Deputy Director of CISS, Tsinghua University, delivered a welcome speech, introducing Tsinghua University’s school profile, global strategy, and educational characteristics. Da Wei, Professor of the Department of International Relations and Director of CISS, Tsinghua University, delivered a speech on the topic of “China-US Relations after the US Presidential Election,” inspiring students to think about the key variables and ways to break the deadlock in the China-US relations in Donald Trump’s second presidency. Then Professor Da Wei answered questions from the students.

Afterward, students from both sides exchanged ideas in groups, enthusiastically discussing cultural backgrounds, paths to higher education, and international issues of common concern.

In the afternoon, the students walked to visit Schwarzman College. Staff from Schwarzman College introduced its enrollment rules, curriculum, characteristics, and training programs, deepening students’ understanding of its high quality and internationalization. At the end of the event, the students exchanged contact information and bid farewell reluctantly.
