CISS Director Da Wei Visits the U.S. to Attend Conferences

From late July to early August 2023, Da Wei, Director of the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University, paid a visit to the United States for conferences and to some of the official institutions and think tanks in Washington.

From July 23 to 25, 2023, Professor Da Wei participated in the 31st Northeast Asia Cooperation Dialogue (NEACD) and Defense Information Sharing (DIS) hosted by the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla, California. Both of the two conferences were joined by officials and scholars from the United States, China, Japan, ROK, and Russia. The participants mainly discussed topics such as changes in the security situation in Northeast Asia, adjustments in regional national security and military strategies, China-U.S. relations, the Ukraine crisis, and peace and security in the Korean Peninsula. As the only Chinese scholar who presented at the conference offline, Da Wei introduced the perspectives of Chinese officials and academics on the relevant issues and answered a number of questions from the participants. Zhu Feng and Li Chen, Nonresident Senior Fellows of CISS, participated in the conference online.

From August 7 to 8, 2023, Professor Da Wei participated in the U.S.-China XGen Dialogue organized by George H.W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations in Washington. Scholars and students from different generations in China and the U.S. met to discuss topics such as China-U.S. relations, the Taiwan question, and climate change. They explored the different perspectives of different countries and generations on such topics and sought their continuity and differences.

After the conference, Professor Da Wei had some working-level exchanges with officials from some of the U.S. government agencies and scholars from several U.S. think tanks in Washington.
