On April 14, 2022, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held its 33rd Security and Strategy Seminar titled “China-Russia Relations amid the Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Assessment and Evaluation.”

The seminar focused on the development of Russia’s domestic situation since the conflict, the strategic positioning of future China-Russia relations, and how China should respond. China’s relationship with Russia is facing many challenges resulting from the conflict, panelists believed. While encountering the impact of the Russia-Ukraine crisis on itself, China needs to go beyond the American or Russian perspective and identify the ultimate goal of its ties with Russia from its own strategic point of view.
