Gu Dengchen
Adjunct Expert at Tsinghua University’s Center for International Strategy and Security

Gu Dengchen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management from Nanjing University and a Master’s degree in Law from Renmin University of China. He currently serves as Director of the Policy and Regulation Research Center at Alibaba Research Institute and is also an Adjunct Expert at Tsinghua University’s Center for International Strategy and Security.

From 2009 to 2019, he worked at a government-affiliated think tank, focusing on public policy research. Since 2020, he has held roles at ByteDance’s Trust & Safety team and Alibaba’s Public Policy division. His work centers on platform governance, global geopolitical and technological competition, international compliance, and overseas risk management. He pays particular attention to how digital industries—including social media, e-commerce, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence—interact with domestic and international regulatory frameworks.

He actively engages with legislative bodies, industry associations, and think tanks both in China and abroad to provide informed, industry-grounded, and globally aware insights that support the development and evaluation of policies affecting the digital economy.

Over the years, writing as an industry observer, he has published over 100 commentaries and research articles in prominent Chinese media outlets such as The Paper, Economic Observer, and Nanfengchuang, as well as in academic journals. He has been interviewed by major national media including China Central Television (CCTV) and Xinhua News Agency, and has participated in a key project funded by China’s National Social Science Fund.
