ZHENG Xiyuan
Non-resident Fellow, CISS, Tsinghua University

Non-resident Fellow at the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Chemistry at Lanzhou University and a Master’s degree from the School of International Relations at Peking University. He was also a visiting scholar at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University in the United States.


Prior to joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, he worked in local government in Gansu Province and in the State Administration of Commodity Prices. Over the years, he has held various key positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Deputy Consul at the Chinese Consulate General in New York, Deputy Chief of Mission and Political Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Greece, Counsellor in the Policy Planning Department, Consul General in Mumbai, and Consul General in Manchester.  


As a prolific writer, his Trilogy of Report Sets on Modern China by New York Times received widespread attention, and was awarded as Top 10 Best Books of the Year.
