On March 19-21, 2024, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University, the US Brookings Institution, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) co-organized the China-US Food Security Dialogue at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center, Italy. The Dialogue invited nearly twenty scholars from scientific research institutions, universities, think tanks, and other organizations from China and the United States (US) for in-depth discussions on the current status of China-US relations, food security technology, agricultural cooperation, and other related topics.
During the three-day conference, the participating experts engaged in profound discussions on the state of agricultural development in China and the US, future cooperation on agriculture, and international standards to promote smart agriculture and coordinate and improve food security and quality. Scholars from both countries unanimously expressed that since China and the US are major food security countries, leaders from both sides should attach great importance to food security. They hoped that in the future, experts and scholars from both countries can strengthen ties and gradually build trust in this field.
The conference was moderated by Jude Blanchett, Freeman Chair in China Studies at CSIS, and Ryan Hass, Director of the John L. Thornton China Center at the Brookings Institution. Chinese agricultural experts attending the conference included Wang Ren, former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Wang Qinfang, Secretary General of the China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation (CAPIAC), and Zhao Minjuan, Professor of Northwest A&F University. Da Wei, Director of CISS, Chen Qi, Deputy Director of CISS, Shi Yan, Fellow of CISS, and Yang Bingyi, Research Coordinator of CISS, were present at the conference.
