On December 18, the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University held the third China-Central Asia Dialogue on Trade Governance.
In his opening remarks, CISS Director Da Wei pointed out that the changing international dynamics require China and Central Asia to work together to promote regional growth and multipolar diplomacy.
Panelists explored topics such as China’s strategic cooperation priorities with Central Asia, and governance and cooperation measures to boost cross-border infrastructure. They also shared views on trade governance, cross-border cooperation and infrastructure development between the two sides. They believe that it is necessary to start with the construction of additional infrastructure, and to solve the current blockages in trade governance, as well as to empower mutual trust and communication.
The event featured Alexandr Axyutits, director of operations, JANA; Nygmet Ibadildin, chair, Department of International Relations, KIMEP University; Nargis Kassenova, director, Program on Central Asia, Davis Center, Harvard University; Shi Jing, research fellow, Institute for International and Area Studies, Tsinghua University; Dmitriy Trostyanskiy, chair, Department of Strategic Forecasting, Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Xu Poling, director, Department of Russian Economy, Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; and Zhang Hao, chief reporter, Science and Technology Daily.
