China Forum Expert Zhou Bo Speaks at Shangri-La Dialogue

2024-06-12

Senior Colonel Zhou Bo (ret.), senior fellow at Tsinghua University’s Center for International Security and Strategy and a China Forum expert, gave interviews to BBC News, CNBC, The Washington Post and Shenzhen TV, and shared his views on the latest Shangri-La Dialogue.

Zhou dismissed the unfounded allegation that China tried to discourage other countries from attending a peace summit in Switzerland, and clarified China’s position on the Ukraine issue. On China-US ties, he labeled the overall tone for the bilateral relationship as positive, while noting that the two sides should seek consensus on the establishment of a ‘trust, but dialogue’ paradigm between them. On Taiwan, Zhou stressed that Beijing remains committed to the vision of peaceful reunification, and that it is still striving for it with maximum patience and sincerity. The interdependence between the mainland and the island will deepen as globalization progresses, he added.

Held annually in Singapore by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and the Office of the Asian Security Summit of Singapore’s Ministry of Defense, the Shangri-La Dialogue is one of the most important defense summits in the Asia-Pacific region.
