​In response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan on August 2 in disregard of China’s strong opposition, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) carried out military exercises on the waters and in the airspace surrounding the island. In addition, Beijing announced a series of countermeasures including trade measures against Taiwan as well as sanctions on Pelosi and her immediate family.

A recent Tsinghua report shows that as African countries are expected to experience a peak of international bond repayment between 2023 and 2025, they may be at risk of default—a potential crisis that is likely to hit dozens of low- and middle-income bond-issuing countries.

​The three-day Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Youth Technology and Innovation Forum kicked off on May 21. Doha Forum 2022 took place in Doha, Qatar on March 26-27, focusing on the theme “Transforming for a New Era” with four core areas: “Geopolitical Alliances and International Relations,” “Financial System and Economic Development,” “Defense, Cyber and Food Security” and “Climate Change and Sustainability.”John Gong, a China Forum expert and professor of the Department of Economics at the University of International Business and Economics, gave a keynote speech at the forum.
