On February 8, 2022, Professor DA Wei, director of the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) and professor of international relations at Tsinghua University, was invited to participate in the ‘State of the World’ Roundtable, a program of the Global Foundation, where he delivered a keynote speech in the session entitled “Global Governance Renewal & Enhanced Global Collaboration.” The session was moderated by Mr. Pascal Lamy, president of the Paris Peace Forum and former director-general of the World Trade Organization. Also among the panelists were the Right Hon. Helen Clark ONZ SSI PC, former prime minister of New Zealand and former administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, and Dr. Dino Djalal, founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia and former deputy foreign minister of Indonesia.

The speakers addressed three questions: “How do you see the state of global governance as it is today, compared to five years ago?” “Looking five years ahead, what is your vision for global governance, relative to today?” and “What are the key actions that would enable your future vision to be realized?” According to Professor Da Wei, deteriorating major power relations and polarized domestic politics in some countries have affected global governance collaboration over the past few years. In the coming years, the world will still face a discouraging deficit in governance and cooperation. Countries need to distinguish geopolitical differences from global governance collaboration as much as possible, and enable youth, women and NGOs to engage more in global governance dialogue and cooperation.
