DA Wei is the Director of the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) and a Professor in the Department of International Relations at Tsinghua University. His research focuses on China-U.S. relations, as well as U.S. security and foreign policy.
With three decades of experience spanning China’s academic and policy communities, Da Wei has built a career in both think tanks and higher education. He had worked in China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) for more than 2 decades where his last position was the director of the Institute of American Studies (2013–2017). Following this, he was the assistant President at the University of International Relations (UIR). Since January 2021, he has been working at Tsinghua University, where he continues to advance interdisciplinary research and policy engagement.
Beyond his institutional roles, Da Wei is Vice President of the Chinese Association of American Studies and serves on the boards of multiple academic organizations, fostering dialogue across global scholarly networks.
Da Wei holds a BA and MA from the University of International Relations (Beijing) and a PhD from CICIR. His international academic exchanges include stints as a Senior Visiting Scholar at the Atlantic Council (2006–2007), Johns Hopkins University (2008–2009), Stanford University (2024), and Nanyang Technological University(2025).
