CISS Youth Holds Successful Dialogue with Schwarzman Young Scholars

2024-05-07

On April 23, CISS Youth was invited to visit Schwarzman College to hold the 2nd youth dialogue with current Schwarzman scholars. Continuing the spirit of frankness, openness, and inclusiveness of the first youth dialogue in December 2023, the two sides discussed US foreign policy and its impact on China-US relations, aiming to enhance the understanding of international relations through academic exchanges and dialogues among the young scholars, especially the perception of changes and challenges of China-US relations in the current global political and economic situation. The dialogue was moderated by Sun Chenghao, Fellow of CISS, and Andrew Bilden, Scholar from Schwarzman College.

Participating young scholars conducted discussions on topics such as the current US foreign policy, the trend of China-US relations, and regional hotspot issues. The dialogue especially emphasized the important role of young scholars and students in international exchanges. Several participants suggested that young scholars and students have the responsibility to provide new ideas and innovative solutions to complex international topics through participation in international dialogues and research. Both Chinese and American participants agreed that the active participation of the young generation plays a significant role in promoting international cooperation and regional and global stability and development.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue such dialogues. They planned to further explore how to enhance trust and dispel doubts through youth cooperation and cultural exchanges in future dialogues. They all look forward to more substantive progress in youth exchanges and international cooperation.

The dialogue was joined by Schwarzman scholars, including Andrew Bilden, Aiping Huang, Ben Bograd, Ben Platt, Edward Tan, Hans Mulyawan, Jessica Ringer, Kanishkh Kanodia, Moksh Jawa, Noel Therattil, Ryan Kueh, and Samson Cheng. The Chinese youth delegates were mainly from CISS Youth, including Huang Ying, a PhD student of the Department of International Relations at Tsinghua University; Guan Shiqian, a master’s student at Beijing Foreign Studies University; Jiang Shaocheng, a master’s student of the School of International Relations & Public Affairs at Fudan University; Huang Chenxuan, an undergraduate student of Rixin College at Tsinghua University; and Zhang Yuanshinan, a master’s student at China Foreign Affairs University.
